I'm going to be honest — I know I enjoyed this book while I was reading it, but ask me to tell you what happened and I'll stare at you blankly. It's the literary equivalent of a meal that tasted great but left you hungry an hour later.
What I DO remember: him chasing her through the snow. The bite. The tension of that scene branded itself into my brain and refuses to leave. Everything else? Vibes. I remember vibes. Good vibes! But vibes nonetheless.
The worldbuilding was interesting enough to keep me going, the Maiden concept was intriguing, and the twist at the end hit well enough that I immediately picked up book two. But the fact that I can barely recall the details tells you everything about why this is a 3 and not a 5.
Sometimes a book is a good time but not a core memory. This was that.
🩸 3/5 stars. The snow chase scene lives rent-free. The rest paid up and moved out.
