Not as good as Butcher & Blackbird — but honestly, what could be? That's an unfair bar. This was still a great time.
The MMC? Loved him more than book one's, actually. Something about his energy just hit different. The FMC though — a little too "sunshine" for my taste. The arts and crafts with body parts was creative, I'll give her that, but it wasn't my vibe. I'm more of a "stab first, bedazzle never" girl.
The singing in the audiobook made my ears physically bleed. I did not sign up for a musical. My eardrums filed a formal complaint.
BUT. The grandmother was the absolute GOAT of this book. Scene-stealer. Show-stopper. Every moment she was on page was gold. Protect that woman at all costs.
And that epilogue? It is 2026 and I still have not recovered. I will not spoil it. I will simply say that Brynne Weaver looked me dead in the eyes through the pages and chose violence. And I let her.
🎶 4/5 stars. Would have been higher without the singing. The epilogue alone deserves its own rating.
